Division A-AA – 2009 Preview
While many schools look to be competitive this coming fall, 2 schools stand out above the rest – Page and Red Bank. Page will have the go-to heavy hitting power of arguably the best player in the State, Nicole Smith, along with several other very good players. Red Bank, meanwhile, returns a star-studded line-up from its incredible season in 2008, and will also be dropping down from the AAA division. Watch for these 2 schools to meet in the State Tournament and for it to be a battle.
Page – After finishing in the quarter finals of the 2008 state tournament, Page looks to return to top form this up-and-coming season. Behind the Senior leadership of the 2008 Gatorade Player of the Year, Nicole Smith, and under the direction of first year head coach, Karen Boots, this team has its sights set on the State Championship. Notable players will include Sophomore outside, Molly Locke, Junior setter, Taylor McGuire and of course Senior outside, Nicole Smith. Visit the Page Website
Red Bank - On the East Tennessee side, watch out for Red Bank (Chat). They return 6 players from last year’s state tournament team and will be led by a very experienced Senior setter, Courtney Lawson and a powerful Junior outside, Kalyn Helton.
Stone Memorial – After finishing in the quarter-finals of the State Tournament in 2008, Stone Memorial is looking to get back into top shape for the 2009 season. After losing some key players to graduation, we have will have some younger players that have to step up. With senior leadership from outside hitter, Brittany Eller, Setter, Kelli Keck, Right side hitter, Leslie Brown and Defensive Specialist, Lori Keck, we should be where we need to be come October. Other notable players include: Juniors, Allie Blair and Meagan Zientara and Senior, Ashley Sebastian.
